Resource Development, Violence Against Indigenous Women, & Environmental Assessment in Yukon

YAWC is leading this research project for the purpose of building capacity in Yukon to present the perspectives of Indigenous women, girls, and gender diverse people and increase their participation in environmental assessments, by using a gender-based analysis plus (GBA+) approach.

Jason Prno Consulting Services and Strategies North Advisory have been contracted to deliver the project.

The project will use evidence-based research from an Indigenous women organization's perspective, to understand the relationship between resource extraction projects and violence towards Indigenous women and gender diverse people in Yukon and northern BC. The project also aims to develop guidelines on management and policy prevention, mitigation, and other intervention measures for key stakeholders in the Yukon environmental and socio-economic assessment process.

The project is funded by Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada and runs for two years ending March 2022.

Stay tuned for project updates.
