IGBA+ Policy Framework for Resource Development Projects

YAWC is leading this research project for the purpose of building capacity in Yukon to present the perspectives of Indigenous women and girls’ or LGBTQ2S+ people and increase their participation in environmental assessments, by using an Indigenous Gender-Based Analysis Plus (IGBA+) approach. Strategies North Advisory Inc. has been contracted to deliver the project.

The project will use evidence-based research to understand the relationship between resource extraction projects and violence towards Indigenous women and gender diverse people in Yukon and northern BC and develop guidelines on management and policy prevention, mitigation and other intervention measures for key stakeholders in the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment process.

The project is funded by Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada and runs for one year ending March 2021.

Engagement Process

Strategies North Advisory is conducting engagement in October - November 2020 with key stakeholders from Industry, Government, Organizations, and First Nation communities in the Yukon and northern BC.
