Friday October 2, 2020
On Friday Oct. 2, YAWC asked Yukon and northern BC governments, businesses and individuals to hang a red dress on their premises in solidarity and drum 42 beats for each woman gone. YAWC also displayed 42 dresses on Rotary Park in Whitehorse, 41 dresses to represent those Indigenous women in Yukon and northern BC who have been murdered or missing and one dress to symbolize the next vulnerable target.
Every October, YAWC organizes this event to raise awareness on issues of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls across the country and locally in Yukon and northern BC, honour the victims and their families, advance the calls for justice of the National Inquiry into MMIWG so that together, as a society, we can top the violence.
