Together we can honour the victims and families of MMIWG and stop the violence.
We invite the public to meet outside the RCMP detachment on Wednedsday, October 4th at 12 noon for brief opening remarks, walk down Main St. to River Front street then turn right along river to the Rotary Peace Park MMIWG2S+ Monument for a few closing remarks “thank you” with a grab & go lunch.
The REDress is a public art installation created by artist Jamie Black in 2010 to honour the hundreds of MMIWG2S+. It is an on-going project to commemorate MMIWG2S+ by hanging empty red dresses in a range of environments. YAWC is encouraging businesses and individuals in the Yukon and Northern BC to display a red dress on their premises on October 4, 2023.
Every October 4th the Yukon Aboriginal Womenʼs Council (YAWC) organizes the Yukon Sisters in Spirit Event to highlight the ongoing issue of violence against Indigenous women, girls and gender diverse peoples in the Yukon and Northern BC. The event also honours the memory of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) and their families.
