On December 10th ,2020, the Yukon Advisory Council on MMIWG2S+ unveiled Changing the Story to Upholding Dignity and Justice: Yukon's Strategy on MMIWG2S+ people

While Indigenous women’s groups are proud of the work that has been done with respect to developing and advancing the Strategy, we must demand action from the next Government in providing long term adequate funding to Indigenous Women’s organizations to do the work of ending the violence against Indigenous Women.

Indigenous women’s groups in the Yukon have been calling for adequate core funding for many years and sadly our calls have not been heard by previous Governments. We are dismayed that no new funds have been identified in recent Liberal Government’s tabled budget for 2021-2022 to support Indigenous women’s groups and First Nations to continue to advance the deeply important work of the Strategy.

As voters head to the polls April 12th, 2021, Indigenous women’s groups feel deeply that ending violence against indigenous Women and Girls must be of highest priority for all party leaders.

Indigenous Women’s groups would like to hear from each leader on how they plan to address the issue of providing us with long term adequate financial resources to work on ending violence against Indigenous Women.
